10 Creative Gift Ideas for Valentine’s Day
Valentine’s Day is fast approaching, and as always, people are anxious about how to impress their significant others with the perfect gift. With so many options available, expressing yur love has never been more challenging.
Personally, I struggle with choosing what to buy when faced with a plethora of similar products. The best example is the fact that I spend more time selecting a movie on Netflix than actually watching one. Decisions become overwhelming when all the options seem amazing.
In this post, I’ll present you with 10 Valentine’s Day gift ideas for couples. These ideas focus on experiences and creating the best memories together, rather than long-term practicality (i.e., you won’t find household appliances, a new phone, or computer on that list).
Challenge Calendar
I first came across this type of gift last year through an advertisement. Challenge calendars, as the name suggests, are 365-day calendars that present you with a daily challenge. They are customized for your needs and personality, so you can choose between couple goals, places to visit, activities to boost happiness or self-confidence, etc.
In today’s world, time is slipping away too quickly and our busy schedules can leave us too tired to spend quality time with our loved ones. With a challenge calendar, you can ensure that you will have at least one quality moment each day to show your love and appreciation to your partner and to do fun activities together.
Here you have two examples of such calendars: “365 fun and cute date ideas” and “The adventure challenge couple edition”.
Couple Board Games
What could be more relaxing after a long day at work than to revert to a childhood mood? The number of board games specifically designed for couples is so large that it’s impossible not to find a great one for you. From reigniting passion, getting to know each other, revisiting shared memories, or discovering each other’s dreams and passions, these games will bring you closer to each other for sure.
Fog of love
It’s my personal favorite because it allows you to explore a relationship from beginning to end by using different roles. Whether your character is manipulative or kind, there will be a multitude of situations that you’ll need to decide on. From the easiest to the hardest questions, you’ll discover the answers as a couple in a funny and entertaining way, in a safe and playful environment. Questions such as who buys the toilet paper, who takes the garbage out, or how prone to saving you are, will all be answered in a funny and entertaining way, in a safe playful environment.
Couple Scrapbook
Maybe you recall where you were on your first date, but do you remember what was the location of your second date? Perhaps you remember the place where you went on your first vacation together, but do you remember the name of the hotel where you stayed? If these events took place recently, the answer is probably yes. However, if several years have passed and you don’t have a photographic memory, then the answer is likely no.
So, how about reliving these moments together? You have two options:
Past years scrapbook
Option one is to create a scrapbook filled with photos from memorable days spent together, to keep the still-clear details from fading away. You can choose to buy a blank scrapbook if you’re feeling creative or one that asks you questions and requires only your answers. In either case, you’ll need to print some photos. Take a break together for a few hours and go through old photos and memories to fill your couple’s journal. Here are two examples of scrapbooks for you to consider: one with guidelines and one blank.
Future scrapbook
Option two is to start a scrapbook from scratch. All you need is a blank scrapbook, a camera, and a plan for the events you want to preserve in the coming months. You’ll enjoy reliving these moments a few years from now. Additionally, I love the idea of using polaroid instant cameras. The ink and photographic paper can be quite expensive, but this will only make you pay closer attention to the details you want to capture on camera.
Matching Accessories
Do one of you travel a lot or are you in a long-distance relationship? In that case, a matching accessory could remind you of each other. A halved heart keychain or necklace, or a matching bracelet might be perfect. I personally find the ones with pictures inside them quite kitschy, but there are many alternative ideas. For instance, you could have a bracelet with the geographic coordinates of your home engraved on it, ensuring you’ll never lose your heart while away from it.
Here are some ideas for matching accessories: one, two and three.
Accessories, not clothes
I want to emphasize that I’ve used the term “matching accessories” and not clothes. I find matching clothes impractical. Where would you wear them without looking absurd to those around you? They are also unfashionable and inappropriate, regardless of the event or situation. I do own a matching t-shirt with my partner, but we only wear them at home, when no one else is around. And even then, only rarely.
If you still want matching items made of textile materials, the only one I’ve found that I approve of is the matching blanket, like this one. They’re cozy and perfect for cold winter days.
Creative Couple Portrait
Celebrate your love in a unique way by immortalizing one of your best days or moments together through a creative portrait. Instead of simply printing a picture, why not create your own masterpiece using methods such as painting by numbers, building with lego, or sewing? Simply send your image online to a website that specializes in personalized gifts and they will send you all the necessary materials to bring your portrait to life.
Additionally, engaging in creative activities like painting can relieve stress and promote relaxation.
Spa & Relaxation Evening
Do you wish to celebrate love or simply exchange gifts? If it’s the former, you have the option of pampering both yourselves and each other. A calming night out at a spa or a massage session can relieve stress and make you both feel more relaxed.
Alternatively, you can create a spa-like environment in the comfort of your own home. Acquire some delightful scented candles, essential oils, and bath salts, turn on some soothing music, and open a bottle of wine. Surprising your partner with a warm bath after a long day at work will undoubtedly be a highly appreciated gesture.
Love Memories Jar
This idea is similar to the scrapbook mentioned previously. You have the option to purchase a personalized memory jar that already contains colored paper, ready to be filled with memories, or you can create one yourself. For the latter, all you need is an empty jar and small pieces of paper. You can choose to surprise your partner with a jar filled with cherished memories, work on it together on Valentine’s Day, or start filling it from this day forward. You can even have two jars, one for each of you to fill with memories of your love for each other.
Sweets & Chocolate
Do you love sweets and chocolate? Most people do! There are countless ways to gift them and bring happiness and indulgence. If you prefer dining out, you can easily find a restaurant that serves delicious desserts. If you prefer staying in, there are plenty of gift options, such as chocolate bouquets and boxes, or personalized cakes with a picture on the fondant. Your imagination is the only limit when it comes to gifting chocolate. After all, it’s not known as the best aphrodisiac for nothing! The serotonin released by your favorite chocolate will make you both feel in love and happy.
Additionally, flowers and teddy bears make a great complement to chocolate gifts. I’ve yet to meet a woman who doesn’t appreciate a stunning bouquet, especially when it’s unexpected.
Couple Vouchers
Depending on how open to spontaneous you and your partner are, couple vouchers are a great idea. The point of this gift is to have 10-20-30 vouchers (it is all up to you) that can range from:
- A whole day of saying yes to any proposal;
- A day of bringing food to bed;
- A day of video games;
- A fully paid evening out;
- A movie at partner’s choice, etc.
You can even leave one or two blank vouchers for your partner to fill in with what they wish. All you must do is let your imagination flow and gift your other half with treats and special moments. And to establish some rules, such as the maximum amount of money you can afford to spend for some of them, or the time frame in which they must be used before they “expire”.
If you are running out of ideas what to write on your vouchers, there are also some already written available on the internet.
Gardening Kit
Have you ever watched the movie “How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days?” At one point in the film, she gives him a plant as a gift. They are supposed to cherish and take care of it together as a symbol of their love. Gardening is a relaxing hobby, and you can make it practical by planting a bonsai or some herbs, such as basil or oregano, together. You will be amazed at how satisfying it is to see the plants grow and to know that you did it together.
These are my ideas for celebrating love. What do you think of them? Do you have any other ideas? Please share your opinion in the comments below.
