The Ultimate Anti-Aging Skincare Routine Guide
Every woman on this planet dreams of skin that is firm, bright, and radiant, with no fine lines or wrinkles, regardless of age. Anti-aging facial treatments and skincare routines are extremely important for improving the texture and tone of your skin and creating a smoother complexion.
Recently, I received a few messages from you requesting suggestions for anti-aging products and routines. Therefore, through this post, I will try to create a comprehensive guide.
Why Anti-Aging Skincare Routine Is Important
If we go back in time, we might make different choices regarding our skincare. So, it is essential to make the right choices now to avoid future regrets.
It is normal for our skin to lose elasticity, change tone and texture, and even experience some discoloration. Anti-aging products should be a part of our daily skincare routine to protect our complexion from further skin damage and signs of aging. Why? Because they compensate for the loss of collagen and elastin production from our bodies, which is the main cause of skin changes over time.
But anti-aging products are not the only element you should include in your skincare routine to prevent skin aging signs. Protection from environmental factors such as the sun and pollution is equally important, as well as a healthy and balanced diet.
As a warning, do not use DIY skincare recipes to replace your skincare products, especially not your solar protection. In the next period, I will write a blog post about why homemade skincare recipes are harmful, damaging, and ineffective. Do not forget to subscribe to the newsletter to be the first to receive it when it is uploaded online.
When to Start Using Anti-Aging Skincare Products
The best anti-aging routine for your 50s is a good anti-aging routine in your 20s. The best way to deal with skin aging is not to correct fine lines and wrinkles as they appear, but to prevent them.
There is no age limit on how early you can start skin anti-aging prevention. The general recommendation is to start in your 20s, but Korean women use preventive measures as early as 6-month-old babies. I think we all have admired Korean smooth skin texture and bright complexion. Behind their perfect skin is a consistent skincare routine and daily solar protection.
The main idea you should leave with after reading this article is that there is no such thing as being “too young” for anti-aging products. Microscopic skin damage can occur before you see it, so it adds up, and when you reach your 50s, it is too late to do anything about it. Start applying SPF as early as possible and look for other anti-aging products starting in your 20s.

Essential Ingredients for Anti-Aging Skincare
There are some ingredients that make miracles for preventing anti-ageing marks and that you should look for when purchasing products to include in your routine.
Sunscreen with at least SPF 30 in winter and SPF 50 in summer. I cannot stress enough the importance of this step. Also, look for products with protection against all UV-types. And you can use this since you are a baby, so don’t wait to get sunburned before applying it.
Antioxidants like vitamin A and C are great to remove inflammation, heal the skin, and repair some of the damage already existing. Vitamin C is directly connected to collagen synthesis, which is the reason why it helps you maintain a youthful look longer. At the same time, vitamin A is amazing for skin regeneration, visibly reducing the fine lines and wrinkles. Vitamins should be used in your 20s-30s for the best efficiency.
Hyaluronic acid is amazing for moisturizing the skin and maintaining the moisture balance. The under-eye area is the most important area to moisturize as it has no oil glands to do this itself.
Argireline is actually the brand name of a peptide called acetyl hexapeptide-3. Peptides in general have a great effect on removing ageing signs, especially wrinkles. They do so by relaxing muscles and stimulated blood vessels nourishment to the skin. This in turn promotes collagen production. Another powerful peptide is Matrixyl 3000 (palmitoyl-pentapeptide-3). For best efficiency, peptides should be used in your 30s-40s.
Green tea is one of the best natural ingredients to reduce inflammation and oxidation and to make your skin look youthful and bright. However, it is most effective on skin elasticity. Cucumber, grapes, or chestnut extracts are also amazing natural ingredients for anti-ageing products.
Water is extremely important for skincare. Drinking water itself does not help to moisturize the skin, but a moist environment certainly does this. Moist air helps skin regeneration. Which is a good reason why you should consider purchasing some humectants and emollients as part of your skin care.
Retinol is another miracle ingredient for collagen production and skin regeneration, thus reducing fine lines and wrinkles. However, you should apply it with moderation and only at night, as it can make your skin more sensitive. And never apply it without solar protection. Also, it should be used in your 30s-40s for the best efficiency.
How to Build an Anti-Aging Skincare Routine
Firstly, a good anti-aging routine is a multi-step one. You should cleanse, exfoliate, moisturize, and protect your skin from the environment. And anti-aging ingredients mentioned above should be part of each step of the routine. I previously wrote an article about skincare routine steps and product recommendations for your skin type that you can read on this topic.
Moreover, a good anti-aging skincare routine also involves lifestyle changes. Among the best practices you should follow, there are:
- Wearing SPF at least 30 in winter and 50 in summer daily and avoiding direct exposure to the sun. I will repeat this as many times as possible as I cannot stress its importance enough.
- Avoiding artificial tanning.
- Avoiding smoking (including passive smoking) and alcohol.
- Frowning and squinting as rarely as possible. Sunglasses can help with this aspect.
- Healthy and balanced diet.
- Regular exercise.
- Twice-a-day cleansing of the skin without scrubbing.
- Using a daily moisturizer.
- Avoiding any product that hurts, stings, or burns when applied to the skin
- Get enough sleep.
- Keep your environment moist.
- Manage your stress (ageing signs are not called “worry lines” for nothing).
Anti-ageing Skincare Products Recommendations
For cleansers, choose a product that is gentle on the skin, and avoid exfoliating cleansers that are rough on the face. My favorite product is CeraVe cleanser, which is the only product in my skincare routine that I cannot convince myself to replace by trying something new.

Serums are equally important. Currently, I use a Vitamin C and Vitamin E serum from Sephora. However, I only apply it a few times per week because my skin is quite sensitive and dry due to frequent weather changes and windy conditions.

Retinol products also go by the name of vitamin A. I have one small dose from Disciple that I use sometimes, and so far, it is more than I need. In a few years, I will have to use this more often, but right now this small dose from Disciple is effective.

As a moisturizer, I recommend Clinique cream for very dry skin. Clinique is my favorite skincare brand because I love their products, how they feel on the skin, and the quality of the ingredients. I also use Monuskin balm and Uriage night cream.

The sunscreen I have is from Avene, which is a very nice brand with quality products. It has an SPF 50 and protects against both UVA and UVB. The SPF you use should have a high protection factor and both UV types of protection because UVA protection is effective against aging, while UVB protection works against sunburn.

I also want to mention the peptide serum from The Ordinary. Peptides are a miracle ingredient for anti-aging. I haven’t tried this serum yet, but I used their caffeine serum for under-eye puffiness and their AHA serum for fine lines reduction. Both products were gentle on my skin and had the desired effect. The Ordinary is a brand I trust and recommend if you are looking for some nice and effective serums.
To read more about the products I use and recommend, as well as about how to find the best one for your skin type, you can also read the article about skincare routine steps.
Conclusion

A simple skincare routine and some healthier lifestyle changes can make a big difference in the health of your skin and reduce the signs of aging. However, you should always give it time to see improvements. Also, remember that thinking about anti-aging products is never too early, and applying SPF should never be a routine step you miss, not even for a day. When it comes to aging marks on your skin, prevention is the best treatment.
Disclaimer: To address specific signs of aging, you should also discuss treatments and procedures with your dermatologist. They will also be able to provide other options such as fillers, wrinkle treatments, and resurfacing treatments. If any skincare product you use has negative effects such as peeling, dry skin, breakouts, redness, or burning, stop using the product immediately and consult a dermatologist. Every person has unique skin, and what works for someone is not necessarily best for everyone. Moreover, some active skin ingredients, such as retinol, at high concentrations can cause unwanted side effects, so they should be carefully applied and included in the skincare routine.

Great tips and recommendations. I also love the Cerave cleanser. Proof that good skincare doesn’t have to cost a ton of money. Having a routine that you can stick with is the most important thing.
Cerave products are indeed amazing. And the hydrating cleanser is magical. I don’t think I will ever switch to another face cleanser. Thanks for your feedback and hope you find those tips useful!
Thank you for sharing this! I’m not the best at remembering sunscreen (I don’t live in a hot climate but I know it’s no excuse lol), will start using it more often!
I had the same problem. Especially in winter, when sun is nowhere to be seen. But now I have a sunscreen on my desk and one near the house exist, so I cannot forget about it.
